Building Friendships, Supporting Community, Helping Others

About

Whispers, founded in 1964, is a social and philanthropic organization made up of women living in Whispering Pines. We have a rich history of fun activities and fund raising within the Village.

We are a great way to meet neighbors and make new friends.

Whispers helped purchase the first fire truck for the Village when the Fire Department was all-volunteer. Since inception almost $425,000 has been contributed towards scholarships and to organizations that support families in Whispering Pines and Moore County.

Just a few of the organizations supported in the past are Sandhills Community College, Whispering Pines Fire & Rescue Department, Carthage Food Pantry, Clara McLean House, Wounded Veterans of the Sandhills, and Prancing Horse.

Welcome Letter - June 2025

Whispers is a social and philanthropic organization which a rich history of planning enjoyable activities and raising funds to benefit the local community and support the needs of the Village. Women who live in Whispering Pines are members of Whispers.

Luncheon meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month from September through May. In the past these meetings have been held at the Village Community Building. Information about luncheons and speakers can be found in The Pitch Magazine, on flyers posted around the Village, on Facebook at Whispers of Whispering Pines and on this website under Events.

Since being founded in 1964 by Martha Hardee, approximately $425,000 has been contributed to Sandhills Community College for scholarships and to organizations that support families who live in Whispering Pines and Moore County.

Whispers is governed by a Leadership Team. The Team works with luncheon hostesses to select speakers and plan programs of interest to members and establishes committees to organize events like the April fundraiser - the Festival of Tables. In 2024 the Festival of Tables raised $8,250 which Whispers donated to the Moore Free & Charitable Clinic.

Whispers compiles an informative welcome packet for new residents which are delivered by the WP Police Dept. In addition Whispers has previously produced Whispering Pines Village Telephone Directories, the 2024-2025 directory is still available for sale. These very helpful directories have been published for residents since 1972.

In 2024 Whispers celebrated its 60th Anniversary. Over the summer the Leadership Team will consider projects for next year like producing a new directory and/or holding another fundraiser. We encourage you to attend our monthly luncheons, volunteer to be a luncheon hostess or serve on one of our committees.

Please contact us if we can answer any questions for you about Whispers. We’d enjoy talking with you about ways you can get involved.
